Incorporated as a private, non-profit corporation, LCCS works hard raising donations for scholarships, believing that furthering the education of graduates is the region’s hope. The Scholarship Program has been one of the most important aspects of the Lotts Creek Community School experience. With increases in the cost of higher education, many of our young graduates may be unable to attend college.
At Cordia School, preschool through high school, many of the teaching salaries are funded by the Knott County Board of Education. “A chapter of Appalachia would close if the school shut down,” according to Tonya Cody, an English teacher at the school. David Melton, a former teacher, said, “we’re all just trying to do what we can to carry on Alice’s inspiration.”
